Featuring Ms. Pig E. Banks' Kid-Friendly Savings Exhibit

(WASHINGTON, DC) December 4, 2013 — Ajshay James, finance expert, accountant, author, speaker, and entrepreneur, joins the Moneywise Empowerment Tour as a panelist on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the historic Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in Washington, D.C, 8:30 am — 4:30 pm.  The Moneywise Financial Empowerment Tour (http://www.moneywise.tv/empowerment-tour/), considered one of the premiere African American faith-based asset-building tours in America, is the official outreach program of the Moneywise with Kelvin Boston PBS series. The Moneywise tour has traveled throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and the Middle-East serving more than 40,000 Americans since 2006. James joins the panel discussion “Making Your Money Work for You: Reducing Debt and the Basics of Saving”.  Her book, Ms. Pig E. Banks: A Pig's Tale for Little Savers, will also be featured at a youth-friendly savings and entrepreneurship exhibit during the summit.

James is dedicated to breaking cycles of debt among young people through her non-profit financial education organization, the Pearls for Life Foundation. Ajshay noticed few resources available to parents to help them inform and inspire their children to earn, save and spend money responsibly, so she penned Ms. Pig E. Banks: A Pig's Tale for Little Savers.  In a survey by T. Rowe Price, 24% of kids think their parents discourage them from talking about money while 14 percent of the parents polled stated they actually do discourage their kids from talking about money. “Most books begin the real conversation about saving from age 9,”says James. “I feel it's important we begin those talks with our kids from birth. It just means getting more creative and making it more fun for both parent and child."

The storybook chronicles the watercolor adventures of Ms. Pig E. Banks who teaches a young saver how to take care for a piggybank by feeding it currency and spending wisely. At the end of the story, children are invited to read and sign The Piggy Bank Promise® and create a budget or savings plan including their spending goals (resources are provided in each copy). The book is available for pre-order and targets children ages 2 and up.  Readers may also order copies signed by the author in hard or soft cover at www.mspigebanks.com.
