Orlando, FL — May 24, 2016 — Turmeric has long been believed to be a miracle herb. It is not only popularized by its ability to add color and flavor to food and beverages but also by its therapeutic benefits. While turmeric is a very popular medicinal spice, not many people truly understand important things about this therapeutic, kitchen ingredient.

Scientists reveal the process turmeric goes through once it enters the body. Many people are often curious about how the spice could benefit their health, but they do not have an idea how it can be made effective as a natural remedy.

“Turmeric’s healing benefits are thought to come from curcumin,” said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

This ancient, healing spice has an active ingredient called curcumin, which is a phytochemical that contains healing substances. Some of the most popular therapeutic ingredients of curcumin are its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties.

Turmeric has been used since time immemorial in many cultures from around the world. It is particularly popular in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine Turmeric is believed to offer a myriad of health benefits and has the ability to fight a range of medical conditions.

While curcumin is widely thought to be therapeutic, it has low bioavailability. This limits the delivery of its nutrients inside the body.

In a study, rats were fed with 400mg of curcumin. It was found that 60 percent of the dose was absorbed by the body. However, only very little amounts of curcumin was able to make it to the organs.

In another study, the researchers tried to evaluate the effects of curcumin in different doses in human subjects. It was found that low levels of curcumin were only detected in 10,000 mg to 12,000 dose.

According to experts, curcumin undergoes biotransformation as well as conjugation in the liver. These processes pertain to the conversion of bioactive compound. It is then converted to tetrahydrocurcumin, hexahydrocurcumin, curcumin glucoronide, and curcumin sulphate.

These reactions are believed to result in lo curcumin levels. The good news is that there are curcumin supplements that contain bioavailability-enhancing ingredients such as BioPerine

Curcumin supplements with BioPerine are very popular nowadays. BioPerine is a black pepper extract that is thought to significantly help increase curcumin absorption inside the body (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
