Samiya Mumtaz: “I act to support my organic farms”

Mumbai, August 2016: Nowadays, farming is most sought after for the rich and the famous. Even well-known Bollywood actors like Ajay Devgn, Kangana Ranaut & R Madhavan have taken up organic farming. Joining this list is an actor known for her performances in TV shows, Samiya Mumtaz. Currently seen wooing audiences as ‘Sabiha’ in ‘Maaye Ni’ on Zindagi, she is also an organic farmer. In fact, she says that organic farming is her first love. She believes that it is the only way you can eat food in its purest form.

Samiya has done a lot of research on organic farming and tries to learn and apply traditional and modern ways of farming while growing her produce. “Many western countries like US & UK have started organic farming. But, I feel the way they are doing it is not proper as they focus on farming the same grains again and again on the same field which reduces the quality of the soil of the land. Instead, I believe everyone should start organic farming on a small scale which will be enough for themselves and they can sell the extra grains to cities. In fact, I have a shop in Lahore where we sell all organic grains not only from my farm but also by people who are doing this on a small scale and don’t have a place to sell,” says the actress, while talking about the importance of organic farming.

When asked about how she manages her acting career and her organic farming she replies, “My farm is my priority. I act so that I can support my farm. Of course I do love my job as an actor as well. I love theatre and would anytime prefer theatre over TV.”
