Someone of her stature, yet living a simple life, Lata Mangeshkar a living legend has come a long way in her career in the music industry. Singing professionally from the tender age of 13 she has lent her voice for more than four generations of heroines. The Nightingale of India has sung for over 50 years for the actresses from Nargis to Pretiy Zinta and has recorded numerous albums. Lata Mangeshkar also fondly know as Didi, was born in Indore on September 8, 1929. Her father Dinanath Mangeshkar was the owner of a theatre company and was a well know classical singer in his own right. Didi started her singing lessons from the age of five. She started her career with Marathi movies, and learnt classical singing from various mentors. She was rejected from many projects because it was believed that her voice was too high-pitched and thin then. With the movie “Mahal” she had her first biggest hit with the song “Ayega Aanewaala”. Lataji went on to work with various big music directors, with her songs reaching to heights of what was unheard gave a series of successful hits. Her voice had a special versatile quality, which many music composers experiment their creativity to the fullest.
