The spectra of drought is still looming over Maharashtra The drought in the state this year is more severe than that of 1972 The prevailing drought situation is getting worse day by day The state which is considered as India’s second most populous state and home to over 100 million people is affected. The government of Maharashtra is planning to make it compulsory to adopt measures such as water recycling and rain water harvesting to tackle this grave situation This week, IBN-Lokmat’s Reporter Ashish Jadhav reports on specific measures that have been taken up in villages around Marathwada, Ahmadnagar and Sangali regions, on Sunday, 26th May 2013 at 8.30 pm only on IBN-Lokmat.

Many villages close to Marathwada and Ahmadnagar region are cultivating green land even in drought situation by using various measures. Small Villages have enacted water saving initiatives with varying degrees of measures like model of Eco village, efforts for increasing water level, constructing small dams, building watershed etc. these efforts are paying off as the villages are turning into green land. In a bid to address the severe drought that has been plaguing nearly one-third of the state many people are coming forward as volunteers to help and educate villagers

India is among the top most country of excesses water utilization as compared to other country. If this situation still prevails, many people will not have sufficient drinking water to drink as well.
