A prominent Marathi author, a social activist and the man with many interests, Dr. Anil Awachat has made a unique place for himself in social circuit of contemporary Maharashtra. Awachat and his wife Sunanda, a Psychiatrist, founded a deaddiction Center in Pune, famously known as “Muktangan” which was first of its kind in India. He has received a National Award for his outstanding contribution in prevention of alcoholism and substance abuse. Born in 1944, in the town Otur in Pune District Maharashtra, Awachat did his pre-degree from Fergusson College and later received a medical degree from B. J. Medical College. Despite having a Medical degree, he never practiced as a doctor and till date prefers not to use “Dr.” with his name in writings or otherwise. Anil always had tremendous inclination towards arts and was always interested in several hobbies including Origami, Flute, Cooking, and Sculpture. His social work took a sharper turn with the founding of “Muktangan” the only institute with ISO 9001:2008 certification,along withhis wife. The center has been a highly appreciated and has successful operations.

Spreading positive light and happiness across the helpless segment of the society is a courageous job in itself. Awachat has managed to inspire many lives through his writings.
