Broadwindsor, Dorset, United Kingdom, July 2016: Autism Decoded ~ The Cracks in the Code by Stella Waterhouse takes a light and somewhat controversial approach to this weighty and complex subject, illustrated by personal accounts, film and literature. Along the way it takes a look at the lives of some people who, while they may not have autism, bring new — and often surprising - insights to the search!
Waterhouse offers a picture of autism as seen through the eyes of some of the great educators, physicians, psychologists and researchers and, most importantly, through the accounts of people with autism themselves.
Seeing ASD from this wide variety of perspectives will give the reader a real insight into the world of autism, both throughout history and as it is today. That provides a solid foundation for what will follow in the rest of the series, as Waterhouse clarifies both the criteria and the causes; offering views that will challenge the reader to reassess their thinking and join the debate.
“An eminently readable book and sometimes difficult to put down, it portrays those with ASD in an understanding and compassionate light. It will add a great deal to these complex and very often misunderstood syndromes.” ~ Elizabeth Rowse, M.R.C.P (Retired), Salcombe, Devon, UK
Stella Waterhouse is a second-generation educator and autism awareness expert who aims to offer practical advice, insight and solutions to enrich the child's life and enhance family life.
Ms. Waterhouse first came across autism in the late 1960s when she met three very different children, all of whom shared the same diagnosis. She was intrigued by those children and that led her to work with both children and adults on the Autism Spectrum as a teacher, caregiver and finally, as a Deputy Principal of a residential community for adults with ASD.
Stella Waterhouse began researching autism in 1990 and is a published author of several books including A Positive Approach to Autism, and a series of short concise books for positive parents and teachers.
Stella Waterhouse is available for interviews.
