US navy is a mammoth organization and NAVSUP is only one of the 5 systems commands that have been set up to look after the material and logistics needs of the organization. NAVSUP is the acronym that stands for Naval Supply Command System, a body that employs nearly 10000 civilian as well as naval personnel and looks after the requirements of US naval forces wherever they may be deployed. Inventory Control Point or the ICP exercises direct control over repair, replacement, procurement and purchase of thousands of accessories and parts that keep vessels, spacecrafts, and ships moving. This naval ICP also provides help and assistance to ships and vessels of allied nations. This support is in many areas such as contracting, management of materials, movement and transportation, mail services, consultation, and so on.
Perhaps the most important activity carried out by NAVSUP is to look after Navy contracts. It performs the role of the head of all the contracting activities that goes on inside US Navy. The organization accounts for contracting activities that amount to nearly $4 billion and take up almost 120000 individual naval contracts.The organization oversees the card purchase program of the Navy as well thereby providing service to more than 40000 card holders.

The petroleum office of the navy is also under the control of NAVSUP and the organization supervises 10 fuel depots for navy and its personnel.
