A dedicated Marathi playwright, novelist and columnist, well known and synonymous to the genre "Gudh Katha" or supernatural mysteries that magnificently blend into social realism - Mr. Ratnakar Matkari, is not only a writer but also an actor, director, producer and painter. Many of his works have been appreciated and awarded by institutes for his versatility in theme, technique and language. The most recent of the twenty-one awards bagged by Mr. Matkari is the great Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2003-2004. This week, IBN-Lokmat brings you an exclusive interview with the literary genius himself who will talk about his life experience and achievements only on Great Bhet, Saturday 15th December 2012 at 9:30 pm  

Mr. Ratnakar Matkari has earned a degree in Economics from Mumbai University in 1958 and worked in Bank of India for twenty years along with establishing himself as an artist. His ninety-eight produced works comprise of 33 plays, 8 series of one-act plays, 18 short stories books, 3 novels; and a book of poems, 14 plays and 3 series of plays especially for children. His works have been performed not only in India but also on international platforms.  Sootradhar, established in 1972, is a theatre institute started by Mr. Matkari which promotes Art House theatre. He also established a drama school named Mahadwar in 1970 with produced 2 plays which were performed in Muscat and United States.  A few of Matkari’s successful works have been Wedi Manase, his first work and one-act play (1955), 'Maze ghar- maza sansar' award winning movie script (1986), 'Tumhi tithe asayala have', a Marathi translation of Arundhati Roy’s essay 'Greater common good' (1999) and the play which highlighted the problems faced by the Dalits in the society, Lokkatta 78 (1978).
