(Free Press Release) Middlesex, London - Douglas McFarlane was a blogger from Scotland and in Making it in Hollywood he turned his blog into a documentary feature film on very little budget. Douglas McFarlane partnered with Amazon.com to launch the documentary feature film in DVD. According to Douglas McFarlane, “As soon as I got the Academy nod, the plan was to interview indie filmmakers and blog an article to my UK Theatre Network and UK Film Network, using my high definition camera, laptop and smartphone, but all that changed on my first weekend in Hollywood”.
According to Douglas McFarlane, “Making the documentary was probably the most exciting two years of my life, as I worked with a lot of great people and spoke to a lot of stars who I had admired from afar.” The idea to make ´Making it in Hollywood‘ was born after Douglas McFarlane was invited to cover the Oscars for his theatre blog. McFarlane says, “Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood arrived and hugged his old friend who he hadn't seen in 40 years. It was at that very moment that I realised I was filming a behind-the-scenes view of Hollywood that a wider audience would be interested in seeing.” After the Oscars came Cannes, where 15 minutes of the documentary feature film was filmed. This includes a scene where Leonardo Di Caprio is waving at fans, only to be seen whisked away under a hood later at the airport. London was the next stop, with the annual competition for '£100,000 to make a film' by BBC and Film London. Douglas McFarlane was back to London for the BAFTA's where he got a slot in the red carpet to interview Brits who had made it in Hollywood. The making of the documentary feature film ended at Oscars the following year.
Before this, Douglas McFarlane had been an actor of many years around Glasgow, Scotland. He mostly did character parts in independent films, but he also appeared on TV on several occasions. Like everyone else in the film industry, Douglas McFarlane was interested in making it big in Hollywood, but he was aware that this was going to be a tall order. He settled for the World Wide Web and his theatre blog generated a large community.
