Research conducted in the past suggests that children are exposed to television at an age as early as six months and by the age of two they turn into an enthusiastic viewer of the medium. Cartoons surely are their favourite and if given a chance they would watch it day in and day out. However, psychologists have also confirmed that watching excessive of these cartoons hinders the process of a child’s overall development. It limits their imaginations, instills a violent behavior and sometimes leads to addiction. Earlier it was Looney Toons, today it is Doraemon. Cartoons, surely have changed over the years but the love for them amongst children has not reduced at all. They are still the most entertaining, loved and watched show on television. However as they say excessive of anything can be a cause of trouble and cartoon viewing is no exception. There have been reports suggesting addictive behavior in kids due to regular cartoon watching. Not just this, violent cartoons are also believed to instill a violent behavior in children.  At a tender age, human minds are extremely impressionable. What we see is how we act and what we believe. Not just this, excessive TV viewing limits the time for children to go outside and engage in physical activities, something that is imperative for their overall personality development. It comes as no surprise that most kids these days prefer being a couch potato rather than having real interaction on a playground. Imagination has become confined to the idiot box and perhaps therefore kids are unable to think out of the box.

So, are the parents to blame for such a situation or has the lifestyle become such that it is the same story everywhere? No one can pin point the real reason, however the implications that arise due to such a practice, can be discussed and a way to deal with it can be figured.
