The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), one of the leading cancer centers in India, especially Maharashtra, is the national comprehensive cancer centre for the prevention, treatment, education and research in Cancer. Initially commissioned by the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust on 28 February 1941, TMC is a center with enduring value and a mission for concern for the Indian people. The Hospital is visited by around 43,000 new national and international patients every year and more than 1000 patients take the services of the OPD. The hospital caters to nearly 6300 major operations annually. Clinical research programmes, randomized trials, patient care and homely service collaborate to maintain the highest standards of work ethics at the TMC. The Rural Outreach Cancer Centers at Barshi (Sholapur District) and Dervan (Ratnagiri District) are the arms of the TMC working for the early diagnosis of Cancer. A Telepathology service, that was established starting with the rural Cancer Hospital at Barshi, is now utilized by several other hospitals as well. The TMC is accessible to more than 30 centers for telemedicine Consultations and CME broadcasts.
The Tata Memorial Centre is a recognized training centre for cancer education and research by national and international organizations such as WHO, IAEA and UICC. Tata Memorial Hospital is a post-graduate teaching centre and is affiliated to the University of Mumbai, National Board of Examinations and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences with about 80 post-graduate students passing out every year.
