The Social Welfare department of the state was established in the year 1956. This department mainly aims at upliftment of backward class so that they reach the standard of other sections of the society. The backward class welfare work was earlier done by the Backward Class Department which was reconstituted to Social Welfare Department. Shivajirao Moghe is the member of Indian National Congress Party representing Kelapur-Ami, Yavatmal. His department executes the schemes implemented by the Social Welfare Department and Co-ordinate the work of the backward class, in various districts of the state. Various measures have been taken up by this Department to eliminate the disabilities of Backward Classes. They have launched drive with the objective of giving Quality Education, Economic Rehabilitation and Social Welfare in various parts of the state. Providing Provision for hostel, concessions of fee for the students to spread education, giving proper guidance to cultivate waste lands, assisting for the development of land and farming. Eradicating the stigma of untouchability in respect of scheduled castes and to bring them up to the level of general populations are their functional area.
