Great Bhet with a noted author of Dalit Literature and a Social Reformist, Arjun Dangle, only on IBN-Lokmat

Apart from host of publications mainly dealing with the Dalit situation in India, a parallel body of literature called Dalit literature has appeared on the literary horizon that perceives the world from the Dalit angle. There are quite a few Dalit ideologies and theoreticians; Arjun Dangle is among those aficionados. Arjun Dangle, born in 1945, holds a Masters of Arts, from Bombay University. He is also the Former President of State Unit of the Bharatiya Republican Party of India. He was inspired to write for the Dalit Community,which constitute one-sixth of India's population, have for centuries been at the lowest rung of the social ladder. Silenced for centuries by caste prejudice and social oppression, the Dalits of Maharashtra, formerly called 'untouchables', have only in the last forty years found a powerful voice in Marathi literature.  Being born into a Dalit family, Arjun Dangle has made a significant contribution to the Dalit Literature, raising voice against humiliation, subjugation, and call for implementation of social justice. His literary work has been translated into many languages, making his reach wider in scope.

His most acclaimed work has been Poisoned Bread, which was first published in 1992, is a compilation of Dalit Literature.  The book, has contribution of around Eighty Major figures in Marathi Dalit Literature, is edited by Arjun Dangle. His poems and literary work assert the Dalit Community’s identity and the pride they take in it.
