A lyricist, playback singer, television serial writer, assistant director, dialogue writer, etc; this multitalented man has much more to himself than meets the eye. Given his strong roots in theatre, music and literature, his success in mainstream commercial cinema is almost dream-like. Meet Swanand Kirkire, 2 times National Awards Winner on Great Bhet, Saturday, 16th June 2012 at 9:30 pm only on IBN-Lokmat.

Swanand Kirkire was born and brought up at Rambagh in Indore-based Marathi speaking family. His medium of education was Marathi and he later joined the National School of Drama to learn design and direction. He learnt a lot of aspects like costumes and lighting with respect to the stage though he always knew he was going to write and came down to Mumbai to pursue that dream. He was interested in poetry so lyrics were almost like a corollary. Although both his parents were trained classical singers, Swanand did not receive any formal training in singing. His most popular works include Bande Me Tha Dum...Vande Mataram from Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Behti Hawaa Sa Tha Who from the film 3 Idiots for which he won the National Award. There are many people who inspired him in his journey to success and one of them was famous lyricist Gulzar both for his poetry and also his path-breaking films. As an actor he has played roles in films like Kareena Kapoor starrer Chameli, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Eklavya, etc. He has also lent his voice to hit songs like Bawra Mann dekhne chala ek sapna, Aal Izz well etc.
