Flag Foundation of India commemorates Martyrs Day at a special ‘Sadbhavna Sandhya- Mahatma Ke Path Par’ programme at India Gate lawns

New Delhi, 30th Jan, 2014: On the occasion of Martyr’s day, Flag Foundation of India rekindled the Gandhian Principles of Non-violence and Communal Harmony by organising an Evening - â€˜Sadbhavna Sandhya- Mahatma Ke Path Par’ dedicated to the Father of the Nation, at the India Gate lawns in New Delhi.

Compered by iconic television personality AnnuKapoor, the programme broughttogetherthousands of people across the country to observe a minute’s silence to honour the great Mahatma, who sacrificed his life for the nation’s freedom struggle. The atmosphere was emotionally charged when over 20,000 people from all walks of life joined hands to form a human chain and chanted ‘RaghupatiRaghav, Raja Ram’ remembering the Father of the Nation and the Gandhian values.

The evening was further electrified by renowned Bollywood singer SunidhiChauhanwho paid tribute to Gandhiji by presenting renditions of songs of patriotism.The evening was graced by eminent personalities such as John Abraham, RaveenaTandon, Sushil Kumar, Yuvraj Singh, Amman and Ayaan Ali Bangash, amongst otherdignitaries from Delhi's political and industrial circles.

The event kick started with a grand choir performance by over 200 students of Vasant Valley School, followed by a special speed painting on the life of the Mahatma by famous artist, Vilas Nayak, a finalist of popular reality show, India's Got Talent.

Speaking on the occasion about the Great Mahatma, Shri Naveen Jindal, President of Flag Foundation of India, said: “Mahatma Gandhi has inspired people from across the world for generations. He embodies change that common people can bring when they get together. The Sadbhavna concert commemorates this great man, his ideals of non-violence and equality in a way that appeals to the younger generation. It is up to the youth to carry forth the values of our flag and ensure that the Tiranga flies high wherever Indians are making a mark.”

The concert will mark the culmination of the Flag Week Celebration organised by the Foundation on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the historic judgement by the Supreme Court on January 23, 2004, to a PIL filed by Shri Naveen Jindal, which stated that hoisting the National Flag is a fundamental right of the citizens of the country.

The Flag Week Celebration started with a monumental flag measuring 207 ft. at the National Military Memorial at Bengaluru and a similar 100 ft. flag being hoisted at BhagwanMahavir Park, Jodhpur. The celebration was a sincere effort to rekindle the spirit of nationalism amongst the citizens of the country.
