The researchers tried to determine the level of diabetes risk involved. It was found that the risk of diabetes increased by 50 percent among those with rheumatic disease.

According to Daniel Solomon, M.D., the study author from the Division of Rheumatology, Brigham Women’s Hospital, diabetes risk may increase with age as well as one’s body mass index (BMI).

Individuals who are at risk of the condition should take measures to lose extra pounds and maintain a healthy weight. According to Dr. Solomon, inflammation in RA could potentially be linked with insulin resistance.
