26, February 2015: The ski season is in full swing and with travel experts saying record numbers are booking in to catered ski chalets to enjoy a last-minute holiday, it seems there is now there is another option for skiers heading to the resort of Courchevel, France.
Enjoy a Night in a Cable Car
Airbnb recently announced a competition for skiers to cosy up in accommodation in a cable car! As winners of the competition, four guests will get the chance to spend a night in the cable car at a height of 2,738 metres. The cable car will have two beds as well as comfortable furnishings, however it will not have a bathroom.
The lucky winners will be able to enjoy a meal and mulled wine at the summit of the mountain before bedding down in the cable car, which runs above the Combe de la Saulire ski run. The guests will then be able to enjoy the first ski of the day when they wake up!
It will certainly provide a spectacular view and a unique experience for the winners, although it is certainly a step down from the high-quality catered ski chalets of the resort — all of which come with bathrooms!
The competition is part of the ‘A Night At’ programme being run by Airbnb, dedicated to providing guests with unique opportunities to stay in less conventional accommodation. The night in the cable car comes after the success of competitions offering prizes of a night in a Waterstones store in London and Paris’s Galeries Lafayette department store.
Entry to the competition requires applicants to explain in 100 words why they would like to stay in the cable car.
Despite this idea bringing plenty of publicity to Courchevel, the real attraction is, of course, the skiing and winter sports. Courchevel is one of the most popular resorts in the French Alps, and it attracts skiers from all over the world to stay in its high-quality catered ski chalets.
