Description Kenny Hill Player 640mm Spruce EIRW Classical Guitar The Kenny Hill Player Classical Guitar Series are new models that have been in development for some time. At a more accessible price, these guitar feature selected Indian rosewood, cedar, spruce and cypress: all solid woods, and a thinly applied lacquer finish. The Player Series Classical Guitar offers the player a wide variety of choices: each model is available with an Engelmann Spruce or Western Red Cedar soundboard, 650mm or shorter 640mm string lengths and lower. Incredibly, the Spruce tops have silk rays or medullar rays throughout, highly prized and they really do sound terrific. The Cedar tops have beautiful straight grain, with a lush ruddy look to them, sounding warm and wet, most evidencing the same Medullar Rays. The Indian Rosewood backs and sides are also superior. You might expect to see these types of woods selected for guitars well over $3000 or more in price. Specs Once you’ve tried these classical guitars, I am confident you will agree that once again, Kenny Hill has delivered a remarkable line of finely-crafted instruments; they look great, are a joy to play and sound terrific. Solid Wood Soundboard available in Western Red Cedar or Engelmann Spruce (beautiful selections by Kenny) This listing is for the Spruce 640mm ONLY – NOT Ported (btw) Bone nut & saddle Sound board: Spruce Back & sides: East Indian Rosewood (solid woods) – again, Kenny chooses the finest woods for all of his guitars. This version of the 640mm does NOT have Ports – photos may show ports, where this is a standard photo shoot in our gallery representative of any in our series of Production Guitars, as noted below down in the MEDIA section – Please note once again that this guitar is UNPORTED! Fingerboard: Ebony Guitar is fitted with a dual action truss rod (all Hill Guitars, from his Signature Model down, including Estudio Models, have the same). Finish: Lacquer gloss, thinly applied 51mm nut width String Spacing: 44mm at 1st fret – 51mm at 12th fret – 60mm string spacing at bridge Comes with a Brown Leather Custom Hill HSC (included in your price, along with extra strings, humidifier and polishing cloth) Players with shorter hands and/or fingers should seriously consider the 640mm 628mm or the 615mm scale. My fitting sessions with numerous players over the years has proven that this slightly smaller scale is simply more comfortable for the majority of players, while sacrificing nothing in terms of tone and volume. The difference is the length of the neck, the width of the nut at 48-51mm and the proportional fretting of the instrument. The 650mm is suitable for those players whose spread between thumb and pinky is 9″ or greater. You can also measure your pinky tip to index finger tip spread comfortably. The 640mm is suitable for those players whose spread between thumb and pinky is 8″-9″ The 628mm is best for players with a span of 7″-8″ The 615mm scale length is best for players with a span of 7″ or less to about 6″ Of course, these are generalizations, but I do find that most players fit these standards. Please NOTE that this line of guitars has been discontinued. Kenny has slowed down, semi-retiring, building guitars in his home workshop. ___________ Media: Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar. I simply do not have time to engineer much of anything. Thanks. Rich Please NOTE that photos of all “production guitars” are stock photos, taken randomly for our numerous selection of guitars, whether they be from Kenny Hill – Esteve – Adalid or others. It is virtually impossible and arduous to photograph each of our available production guitars. I am, however, happy to take a few photos for you of any particular guitar with which your are interested. Also, measurements of string spacing and nut width are also approximate, as they can be “slightly” different from guitar to guitar. They may be factory made (meaning down the line factory) but humans are still doing much of this work and it is NOT an exact science. Handcrafted instruments are photographed and listed individually, usually identified by a serial number, date and or some other combination. MP3 Audio – 231218-Kenny Hill Player 640mm Spruce EIRW – again, very impressive, from a tonal point of view as well as her power and projection. As musical as any Hill Player in Spruce, this one has just that much more horsepower.
