She plays beautifully, and sounds terrific. She is new with some very superficial marks on the top. The back woods are gorgeous, deep and rich, with some very slight swirling. The guitar is one of the best I’ve ever received from Darren. Her sound is bold, pure and driven. The Hex Rad is short for a Hexagonal Radial bracing, a creation of Darren’s that is proving itself to be a keeper in design and engineering. The guitar is all Rosewood from Brazil, bindings, headstock, bridge, back and sides. The CSA (Brazilian) is drop dead beautiful, as you can see in the photos. The Spruce is Carpathian, with BearClaw etching throughout, marbled if you will. The gradations you see in the photos are not flaws (I don’t really understand why people think this would be a flaw? LOL, bearclaw creates a 3D effect in the top). The guitar is finished with original Fusteros that are highly elegant. I have received many guitars from Doc over the years. This has to be one of the finest I’ve seen from him, ever, from finishing to build, sound to play. That’s what I’m talking about Doc, this is it, baby! ____________ Media Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.
