Welspun Energy Ltd. (WEL), India’s leading renewable energy generator had introduced education support initiatives in the villages across Neemuch, Anuppur & Katni district in Madhya Pradesh over 3 years ago and it’s impact is now visible on ground. These initiatives are aligned to the company’s vision of lighting up lives of communities around its area of operations. Welspun Energy’s 151 (DC) MW solar project located in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh will be the 2nd largest solar plant worldwide.

Welspun Energy seeks to bring in a change in the social fabric of India. In Madhya Pradesh specifically, WEL is focused on improving literacy rates in the region and has undertaken 360 degree approach aimed at spreading awareness on education, improving teaching methodologies and infrastructural support. WEL has been progressively supporting residents of villages across Neemuch, Anuppur and Katni district and these initiatives have enhanced the lives of around 3000 villagers in one way or the other.

Shri Banu Gujjar, Sarpanch, Bhagwanpura village said, “Welspun Energy has brought about a lot of positive changes in our village. It has given employment to many of the villagers, which is helping them lead better lives. Earlier, our schools didn't have benches and the children had to sit on the dirty floor. There was no electricity and this forced students to sit through classes irrespective of the heat. The company has now provided benches and also installed solar panels on top of the school and students now have proper seating arrangements, lights and fans.”

Speaking on the initiatives, Mr. Vineet Mittal, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Welspun Energy Ltd. said, “The education initiatives are aligned to our belief in creating shared value. It is our constant endeavour to contribute to the socio-economic development of local communities, specifically in areas of our operations. The education programs have been introduced post in-depth study, collaboration with department of education and other stakeholders to identify the need gap. It is extremely gratifying to know that Welspun energy could contribute towards improving the literacy rates in these regions.”

Education support programs by Welspun Energy

Infrastructural Support:

Over 400 students from schools across Bhagwanpura, Chirmikheda & Khatikheda villages in Neemuch did not have proper seating arrangement and were forced to sit on the ground to attend classes and these schools also lacked power supply. Welspun Energy installed solar panels atop these schools bringing electricity to their doorstep and has enabled installation of lights and fans for the students.  WEL further created tables and benches for students by reusing the wooden pallets which were utilized as packaging material of solar panels. The initiative served dual purpose- better infrastructure and conducive study environment for students in the classroom and also ensured optimum utilization of the waste material.

Teacher Training Program:

Welspun Energy recognized the need to enhance teaching skills of teachers on new techniques and innovative ways to instruct and motivate students. With this objective, Welspun conducted a three-day training program for teachers from Government Higher Secondary Schools. The training program witnessed participation of more than 30 teachers from schools across villages in Neemuch district.
