METTLER TOLEDO is pleased to present a new installment in its thought-leading on-demand webinar series entitled "Improve the Stability of Emulsions with Inline Droplet Size Measurements." The webinar uses examples from a wide range of industries including consumer products, food, pharmaceutical, and petroleum to explore how inline monitoring can track, and even predict, emulsion behavior for fewer failed batches and more cost-effective emulsion development and scale-up.

Emulsions are critical to many manufactured products and manufacturing processes from food stuffs to crude oil transport. However, characteristics that help predict an emulsion's performance are difficult to measure offline. Droplet size and other system parameters vary with dilution, temperature, pH, and pressure. Additionally, by their very nature, offline measurements typically cannot contribute to real-time process optimization and control decisions.

In situ analysis such as Particle Track with Focused Beam Reflectance Measurement (FBRM) and Particle Vision and Measurement (PVM), on the other hand, helps scientists and engineers optimize and track the effect of surfactant, shear, and raw materials on emulsions and other particle systems without having to sample offline. Inline sampling provides real-time particle and droplet understanding that can lead to enhanced processes to provide improved consistency, stability, repeatability and quality.

Examples presented include lotion-cream development (Merck); micro-encapsulation (Food & Drug Administration); oil/water separation (FMC Technologies); crude oil viscosity modification (Nalco Chemical); and polymerization (DuPont). The on-demand webinar allows viewers to choose the examples they find most useful to their own applications.

Viewers are walked through individual experiments and visuals depicting both inline video and graphical data. This data was then used to make real-time process decisions that significantly improved emulsion performance and led to savings ofboth time and money.
