Web Entries Open for the National Science Seminar 2013 on ‘Water Cooperation’

Eureka Forbes supports the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) to host the National Science Seminar 2013 in India, one of the most successful and very popular students event organized every year by the council for school students across the country.

This flagship students’ event of the Council is being organized by the council since 1982. The event is held at block, district, regional, state and finally at the National level. The event witnesses participation of more than 30,000 school students from 28 States & 7 UTs and is viewed by more than one million people as audience across the country. This year the event started in the month of June and will culminate in the first week of October. State Education authorities in all the Indian States and Union Territories joined together to organize and coordinate the state level contests. One student winner from each State and UT has been invited along with an escort teacher to take part in the National Science Seminar.

After a series of competitions, selections and eliminations the winners have moved on to compete with each other at the National level. This year the National level Seminar 2013 will be held at Nehru Science Centre Mumbai on 8th October 2013. The topic for this year’s seminar is “Water Cooperation: Issues and Challenges”. The students invited for the national level contest at Mumbai will be guests for three days.

The students will be required to carry out extensive study and research on the topic and their deliberation especially at the National level is of top most quality. Besides taking part in the National Science Seminar the students are also exposed to other scientific and educational activities, which include a face-to-face interaction with renowned scientists.

The Science Seminar also provides an opportunity for students & teachers to interact and to express their views and opinions current scientific topics. One National Winner and 9 (joint) second place holders are awarded with a scholarship tenable for one year. In addition to this all the participants are rewarded with special prizes in the form of books and science kits. In order to create awareness and popularize this event, a host of programmes like science talks, painting competitions and popular science lectures are also being organized in coming months. This event is being organized with active support from two industry giants Aquaguard and Canara Bank.

Speaking about the event, Mr. G S Rautela, Director General, National Council of Science Museums, said, “It’s a great way to inculcate a spirit of scientific enquiry and analytical thinking in the minds of young students. We are looking to nurture a feeling of national integration in addition to providing a platform to the budding scientists to exchange their ideas on contemporary science subjects of national importance. This event will also draw out some constructive solutions to the water related issues our country faces.”

Eureka Forbes Limited is also hosting a competition parallel to Water Cooperation inviting students to submit ideas as an essay or a drawing on the topic Water Cooperation: Issues & Challenges. Entries can be submitted ONLY online via the Facebook application on the Eureka Forbes Facebook page. The winning entry will be awarded certification from the Nehru Science Center and a scholarship worth Rs. 25,000/- from Eureka Forbes.
