Addresses surveillance, internal desktop drives and personal cloud storage sectors through innovative products

Dehradun WD®, a Western Digital company and storage industry leader, is strengthening its presence in Uttarakhand by expanding the availability of products that meet the growing demand of storage solutions. A key market for WD, Uttarakhand has shown increased adoption of surveillance drives, internal desktop drives and personal cloud storage over the last one year, reflecting the consumers’ acceptance of specialized products that provide effective storage solutions. WD will showcase its range of products in Dehradun at Pacific Mall on Friday, June 6, 2014 and Saturday, June 7, 2014 during mall timings.

Dehradun, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Roorkee, Kashipur and Nainital are the primary cities that are driving demand for storage solutions in Uttarakhand. Majority of consumers in Uttarakhand are increasingly opting for high capacity hard disks and, to date 500 GB and 1 TB drives contributed most to the total number of drives sold in the state. The demand for storage products in the state is expected to grow at a healthy rate of 15% in the next 12 months.

“Our goal with the Dehradun program is to reach out to the end users, system integrators and channel partners in the city through various initiatives, educate them on the real world benefits of our various products and solutions, and get valuable feedback to understand the demand patterns better,” said Subroto Das, Director — India & South Asia, WD. “Consumers in Uttarakhand are now demanding drives that give them not just storage capacity, but also provide them convenience in case of replacement. WD’s unique warranty and replacement service in India, WD Express, ensures that users can opt for pick-up and drop of WD products at their residence. Alternatively, consumers can also avail the replacement facility at WD’s drop-points in the state.”

In order to meet the demand of the users in Uttarakhand, WD will increase availability of its recently launched products including WD Purple, WD Black and WD My Cloud.

Launched a few months ago, WD’s surveillance-class hard drive line, WD Purple is designed specifically for video surveillance units in new and existing home and small business security environments with up to eight hard drives, and up to 32 high-definition (HD) video cameras. “We are thrilled with the response for WD Purple from Uttarakhand. Consumers can experience the superior quality of WD Purple at our live demo zone at Pacific Mall,” added Das. Available in capacities from 1 TB to 4 TB, WD Purple drives are optimized to improve high-definition video playback, and operate in 24x7 workloads of surveillance environments.

WD is also focusing on providing the end users a wider range of internal desktop drives that provide users with a host of features ranging from performance for power computing, to reliability for everyday computing. WD Black offers enhanced features, generous capacity and high performance helping the users to maximize their PC experience. WD will continue to focus on educating consumers about such specialized drives due to an expected increase in their adoption.

WD’s offering in the personal cloud space, WD My Cloud is available in capacities of 2TB, 3TB and 4TB and unlike public cloud platforms, it gives users abundant storage capacity without having to pay a monthly fee. WD My Cloud allows the users to centralize their data, keep it safe at home and have the freedom to access it from anywhere in the world through their PC, tablet or smartphone.

WD products are sold in Uttarakhand through a strong partner network that comprises five national distributors, around 15 partners, 45 resellers and 40 system integrators. WD’s current marketing campaign will reach out to end users in Dehradun across all three market segments via on-ground, in-city activities and via social platforms such as Facebook.
