Since the late eighties city cars have proven to be incredibly popular amongst motorists living in urban areas. They were originally developed to cater to the demand from many motorists for a small but agile four-seater car. In the modern age most car manufacturers produce at least one or two city car models.
Considerably smaller than, for example, a hatchback, city cars, such as the Peugeot 107 and the Renault Twingo, allow their owners to travel across towns and cities with little problem at all; they also take up less parking space, making them a great option for those that live in areas that have a limited amount of parking space available - such as London.
The Peugeot 107 and the Renault Twingo, as previously mentioned in this article, are two of the most popular city cars currently available. Fun and incredibly stylish in their appearance, both of these cars offer a number of great features.
But what in particular makes these vehicles stand out from the city cars produced by other car manufacturers?
Well part of the reason the Peugeot 107 is such an attractive proposition for many drivers is because of its ability to provide an effective driving experience in cramped urban environments. Although it takes nearly 15 seconds to reach 60mph, it really does excel in city environments.
The interior offers a reasonable amount of comfort - especially when you take the size into consideration. All interior features are manufactured well; each part of the dashboard is built with solidity in mind.
The steering on the Peugeot 107 is also fantastic, providing great handling. It is precise and allows drivers to navigate those tight city backstreets with a certain sense of panache.
What's also great is the fact that it is cheap to run and cheap to insure - factors that are absolutely vital in the modern world. If you use the 107 primarily as a city car, it is unlikely that you're ever going to have to worry about fuel efficiency rates; however, it is able to offer an impressive economy rate - of 62.7 mpg (miles per gallon).
Similarly styled, the Renault Twingo is a great alternative. The 1.2-litre engine featured on the Twingo enables it to cope well across lengthy distances - making it an ideal option for those who travel from city to city on a regular basis.
Like the Peugeot model, the Twingo is a very cool and it also handles similarly; however, however, unlike the 107, the interior on the Twingo isn't quite as impressive. Constructed from plastic that feels cheap and a little flimsy at times, the Twingo doesn't really compare to the Clio - another extremely popular model produced by Renault.
It shouldn't be overlooked by those simply seeking a relatively cost-effective city car though. The 50 mpg fuel economy rate, while not quite as impressive as that offered by the Peugeot model, is good.
All of these factors make the Renault Twingo and the Peugeot 107 truly exceptional city cars which certainly shouldn't be overlooked.

Most major car manufacturers produce a line of city cars. This article documents just two of the best city cars currently available - the Peugeot 107 and the Renault Twingo.
