(Free Press Release) Shoppers are going to have to cough over a few more bucks for a fresh pair of socks in the coming months as the price of cotton continues to rise. The duel blow of environmental problems and the higher cost of transportation to the cotton market may cause people to go barefoot.
“The price of cotton on the world market is the highest it has ever been since the Civil War.”, says Sage Cimetta, owner of the black and white sock company, http://www.blackandwhitesocks.com. “Cotton used to cost about 50 cents a pound. However, for the past year, the price has sky rocketed to an astounding 80 cents and could go as high as $1.80 even forcing up the price of polyesters.”

Countries like China and Pakistan, who normally sell their crop at much lower costs then the US, have suffered devastating droughts and floods. India, another big producer, capped its exports to drive prices up even further. With all of these problems equating to price rises, US sock manufacturers haven't been able to compete and have been forced to drop out of the market. Strangely enough, the recent US crop has been exceedingly successful but even though we have a good crop of cotton we have no one in the US to make the socks.

“We've been having to shop all around the world to keep competitive prices. Luckily we sell on volume and can afford to keep our prices low!” said Sage. Read More
