As you may know, Google has instituted new policies that make article marketing a little more challenging than it used to be. Article marketers generally fell into two basic categories, until the changes rendered one of them obsolete. Some knew that by creating content that other sites wanted they could benefit from syndication, but most only churned out articles for the major directories in order to get them ranked as quickly as possible. But now, the latter is no longer a valid form of article marketing, not only that but you really have to focus on providing high quality content with your articles.

One issue that you have to contend with when writing articles is how long to make them. The minimum length that most article directories allow is usually between 250 and 300 words, though 500 is probably average. A long article is one that approaches a thousand words, in some cases even longer. In general, you'll do better by writing and submitting longer articles. If you want quality sites to republish your articles, they are more likely to do this if you write longer articles. You should also be placing your articles on your own website or blog, and you'll get better results with longer articles.

Most articles require some research, and where you get your material from will have a large impact on the article's quality. When most article marketers think of doing research for an article, the first place they look is other articles, usually those published by the leading directories. The expected result is untold numbers of articles that basically say the same thing. There are, however, other places to do your research if you're willing to go the extra mile. In order to really provide the very best content, go offline and to your local library to do your research. Taking this extra step will allow you to write articles that aren't a regurgitation of everyone else's content.

If you publish articles online, there's a good chance that at some point, someone has used it without permission. The article directories are especially vulnerable to this practice, as people use the content and leave off the resource boxes. Believe it or not, you can sometimes make this work in your favor. When you find your content used without the link back to your site, contact the person who took it and offer them a deal. Let them know that you're aware of the situation, but be courteous with them. Tell them that if they're willing to include a link back to your site that not only can they keep the article they've already taken, but that you'd be glad to supply them with more. The alternative is to simply remove the offending article from their site; otherwise, let them know you're prepared to file a DMCA notice that could get their site taken down. The more you treat article marketing as a serious and viable tool for your business, the more you'll achieve with it. As with anything else, your results are heavily influenced by the way you think about article marketing. The more seriously you take article marketing, and your online business in general, the more you'll accomplish. If you become serious, then you will make the effort to find powerful techniques, and then you will put them to work.
