The digital storage innovator again initiates the plantation of 1,000 trees in Malihabad

WD® KEEPS ITS PLEDGE OF MAKING MALIHABAD GREENER
with the help of Lucknow-based NGO JAZZ

India — July 31, 2014 - WD®, a Western Digital company and a world leader in storage solutions, today initiated the plantation of 1,000 trees in Malihabad with the help of Lucknow-based NGO JAZZ. The sprawling, densely populated city of Lucknow is approximately 30 km away from Malihabad and has not left the region completely unaffected with its increasing requirement for residential areas. This effort will help extend green cover to Malihabad. The tree plantation drive has been launched in Malihabad's village known as Basrella.

WD reaffirmed its commitment to environment by launching a special application on Facebook on occasion of the World Environment Day (5th to make a non-monetary pledge to adopt an environment-friendly practice and share ideas on how to improve the environment. For every pledge made, WD pledged to plant a tree in Malihabad (up to 1,000 trees).

Subroto Das, Director — India & South Asia, WD, commented about the tree plantation drive, “We, at WD, care about the environment because we all are part of it and are indeed indebted to it. We want to return to it in the best possible manner so that others can also reap the benefits. As a company that understands the importance of digital storage, we encourage going paperless as much as possible. In fact, we recently observed a ‘go paperless’ week at our India office when we reduced paper usage in printers/copiers.”

Khwaja Saifuddin, Senior Sales Director, EMEA, WD added, “It’s exciting to be back home and that too for a wonderful reason. I spent my childhood in Lucknow. Malihabad is known globally for growing the world’s best mangoes and WD is known for providing leading digital storage solutions. Like our dependable storage solutions that help you save your memories, I wish there was a similar solution for the mangoes of Malihabad that could have preserved them for long. Nevertheless, I am going to store the videos of this plantation drive on a My CloudTM drive and share them with my colleagues who could not make it here.”

To assist with the plantation drive and the upkeep of planted trees, WD has tied up with JAZZ, an NGO started by Ms. Jaazbia Khan, a Lucknow-based school student. The NGO adopts barren land areas and helps organizations with tree-plantation drives. She said, “Today we are here in Basrella, a village in Malihabad. WD noticed us and extended its loving hand to help us with a green canopy. With WD’s support we are trying to build passion June, 2014). It encouraged people for nature and make people realize the importance of trees in our life. This also gives employment to young boys, girls and widows of this village. JAZZ has already covered many parched areas of Malihabad with trees. Thank you WD for joining hands with us to take this
small step towards the environment.”
