There are too many variables with yeast infections and the treatment could take many different paths. Your doctor may know of a much better treatment that you're not familiar with that might be more suitable due to one of the variable factors present. It only makes sense that your doctor is the one who is up-to-date on medical issues and is capable of making the best decision as to your treatment. It's easy to be misled by all of the non-prescription Candidiasis medications you can buy at your local pharmacy. A recent study of women who self-diagnosed their supposed yeast infection found that only 33% were correct. Don't you think that is a terrible error rate? 66% were wrong!

If you want an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan, you must be examined by your doctor and let him or her determine exactly which vaginal infection you have. Even your best-shot guess could be wrong in spite of the fact that you have had similar symptoms before. In the case of vaginal infections, the symptoms could be caused by the Candida albicans fungus, or yeast, or it may be caused by something else equally unpleasant. By self-medicating with the wrong treatment, you stand the chance of making your infection worse. This is exactly what you need to keep from doing. And so you'll have to go visit your clinic or doctor, with worse symptoms than you had originally.

When the signs of a vaginal infection appear, there are still a lot of ladies who prefer to treat it with over-the-counter medications. The problem with that is there may be more going on than meets the eye and it is imperative to learn as much as you can and visit your doctor.

Unfortunately, it's still not unusual for a woman to prefer to simply treat her supposed vaginal yeast infection with medications she can buy without a prescription from her local pharmacy. Unfortunately, the symptoms of such other common vaginal infections such as vulvitis or bacterial vaginosis are similar to those for Candidiasis vaginitis, but none of them are related. You can easily see why it is imperative to get examined by your doctor so you can proceed with the correct treatment for your vaginal infection. A simple tissue scraping can be examined by your doctor and then there will be no doubt as to the cause of your infection.

You have to be more careful if you are treating oral thrush or a yeast intolerance because they can be more complicated to treat correctly than a skin infection. It's necessary for your treatment to be supervised by a doctor if you have to take any oral medication. The main group of drugs, as we stated above, that are used for antifungal treatment are the ergosterol inhibitors, which includes the azoles. Some azole drugs stop the ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane from being synthesized in the first place, so the cell cannot live. So this interference will effectively eliminate the ability for the fungus to live and successfully reproduce. Human cells will not be compromised by the use of these azole drugs. They are specifically formulated to act upon fungal cell membranes.

So it should be pretty obvious that treating a yeast infection is no simple matter. Yeast infections range from simple to life threatening. The critical conditions surface in people who have a weakened immune system, especially those with HIV/AIDS. People who have had an organ transplant are especially at risk because, in order to avoid the rejection of their new organ, they have to be put on a course of drugs that suppress their immune system. Other patients are those who are undergoing prolonged radiation treatment.
