Shoppers Stop Salesman sets an excellent example of customer service

Retail Industry Applaud his service on Retail Employees’ Day

February 5, 2013, Bhopal: Diwakar Sode, assistant visual merchandiser at Shoppers Stop, Bhopal, was recently felicitated as a Regional Winner at the TRRAIN Retail Awards for stepping over and above his call of duty to keep up to his commitments towards his customer.

In one of the greatest examples of customer service excellence, DiwakarSode worked on a Sunday to make a dress out of paper at a customer’s request.

A customer who visited Shoppers Stop during its End of Season Sale noticed mannequins draped in dresses made of paper. For his son’s fashion show, he wanted to buy the same since the theme was ‘made out of waste’. Diwakar informed him that it was not on sale but offered to make the same for his son.  He spent an entire Sunday, which was his weekly off, and designed two newspaper dresses which resulted in the customer’s son winning the competition!

Diwakar not just went beyondhis call of duty, but also refused to accept a gift and cash from the customer since it is against the ethics and values of Shoppers Stop. At the TRRAIN Retail Awards Ceremony, Diwakarwas in tears  at being recognized and had just four words to say, "I just did it."

It is this customer service excellence that TRRAIN (Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India) applauds every year at the TRRAIN Retail Awards on Dec 12th, which is also instituted as Retail Employees’ Day. The awards were given to 18 employees from all over the country who went out of their way to assist their customers.
