For any agricultural based country like India, the monsoon is known to impact the most, as the crops are dependent on it along with many human needs. There are regions where people perform traditional dance to welcome the monsoon. Even birds, animals and nature have its own way of welcoming the monsoon. Since time inception every farmer, fisherman and tribal utilizes certain natural indicators to predict the onset of monsoon. This week, IBN-Lokmat’s reporter Prachee Kulkarni & Uday Jadhav explore various old and new techniques of weather forecast. There are hundreds of natural indicators to predict weather. The tradition of weather forecast has history of thousand years. For instance, in Konkan belt of the state, fishermen predict the onset of monsoons by observing the behavioral patterns of certain species of fish, like Etroplus. This small fish are large in numbers on the shore just before monsoons sets in.  In a tribal community it is been observed that a local flower called 'Bahava' blooms 40 days before monsoon sets in, which is how the tribe predicts monsoon arrival in their region. With the advancement in technology and science we now depend more on meteorological departments high-tech techniques like high-tech Doppler radar.
