Atlanta, GA — “Reel Change Georgia” aims to get both children and parents involved in preventing underage drinking. The competition seeks to educate youth on goal setting and how underage drinking may hinder them from achieving those goals. Additionally, the Governor’s Office for Children and Families (GOCF) wants to celebrate the 86% of Georgia youth that choose not to drink (2011-2012 Georgia Student Health Survey) and provide them with the opportunity to tell us why in a format they can share with their peers.

12-18 year olds will be given the opportunity to first submit a “Video Title” via a social tagging competition, and create a 30 second video telling why they choose not to drink. However, participants may submit a 30 second video without participating in the “Video Title” social tagging competition. Social tagging events for the “Video Title” competition will be held throughout the month of September in the following counties: Bulloch, Camden, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Henry, Richmond, Stephens, Towns, and Treutlen. The amount of times a video is viewed will be one of many criteria a panel of judges uses to determine the winning video. The winning video will be aired on multiple television stations including MTV, TLC, Spike, and BET as well as in movie theatres statewide as a sponsored Public Service Announcement!
