"Once Upon a Mulberry Field," a love story during the Vietnam War by author C. L. Hoang, was named the Grand Prize Winner (in Fiction) of the 2014 LuckyCinda Book Contest out of Palm Desert, California.

The Third Annual LuckyCinda Book Contest recently recognized "Once Upon a Mulberry Field" by C. L. Hoang as the Grand Prize Winner in Fiction.

The contest, sponsored by LuckyCinda Publishing in Palm Desert, California, was open to all English language books published by small presses and independent authors. The competition was judged by a panel of journalists, book editors and authors, who considered plot, quality of writing, copy flow, and overall look of each entry including cover and back cover description.

Set at Bien-Hoa Air Base near Saigon in 1967, the height of the Vietnam War and the Tet Offensive, as well as decades afterward, "Once Upon a Mulberry Field" follows one man's journey of self-discovery, fraught with disillusionment and despair but ultimately redeemed by the power of love.

Prior to being chosen the Grand Prize Winner of the 2014 LuckyCinda Book Contest, "Once Upon a Mulberry Field" had also been named a Finalist (for Historical Fiction) in the 2014 National Indie Excellence Book Awards out of Los Angeles, California.
