The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education, Pune came into existence on 1st January in the year 1966, to regulate matters pertaining to secondary education in the state. Over 20 million students study in the various schools across the state in primary, secondary and higher secondary sections. The students are provided with textbooks and midday meals free of cost. The education department faces many challenging roles like implementing of the right of children to free and compulsory education, providing proper infrastructure, suitable syllabus, use of modern technology, providing proper teaching staff etc. This week on Vichara Mantryana meet School Education Minister, Rajendra Darda only on IBN-Lokmat as he talks about his department, various facilities provided by them for students and teachers in the state. Rajendra Darda completed his graduation from Nagpur University. He received a diploma from the Government Institute of Printing Technology. Later he went on to study Graphic Arts from London College of Printing. Darda is Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Lokmat newspaper group. In 1997 Darda joined the Congress Party and later was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He became the state Minister for Energy, Finance and Planning, and was also the Minister of State for Home. Darda introduced many facilities for the Students and Teachers in the Education field like Fee Regulation Bill, declaring time-tables of SSC and HSC at the beginning of the academic year, paying teachers on-line salaries and introducing teleconferencing to connect small villages with his Department. To give more nutritious, healthy and hygienic meal to the students, he is planning to improve the mid-day meals that are provided by the Government.
