Society has been aware for many years that when the huge baby boom generation hit their golden years, America would see the largest population of seniors ever. In the upcoming years, people who were born back then will be reaching 65 years of age and will be looking to get social security benefits that they've worked their entire lives for. It will be important for the home care industry to adapt to their changing needs as the population gets larger over the next decade or so.

Putting all of them into nursing homes isn't a good idea because not only is it expensive, but many seniors don't require the type of care that nursing homes provide. Some people are still somewhat capable of taking care of themselves with just a little bit of help. Letting seniors stay in their own homes is a more cost-effective solution and also benefits them emotionally. It can be a bit cruel to make a senior go away to a place that they aren't familiar with instead of staying in a home that they've lived in for decades probably.

Home care allows them to stay in their own homes giving them the best of both worlds. A home caregiver can provide them with companionship, light nursing care, transportation, a bit of housekeeping help, and assistance with personal needs. Home caregivers, like their name suggests, come right into the patient's home to meet their needs. Family members will no longer have the burden placed entirely on their shoulders. Everyone benefits from this type of situation.

Another alternative is a senior living facility. This option provides an apartment for seniors to stay in, so they can enjoy their daily lives like they always have. The advantages of this type of an arrangement is that there are medical and other services available to the tenants if they need them, these places offer activities to keep seniors involved and active, and the senior can enjoy the company of others with similar experiences and likes. This type of facility can be quite expensive though. This option can easily cost thousands of dollars on a monthly basis which many seniors just can't afford.
