Orlando, FL— March 18, 2016 — Osteoarthritis pain can be debilitating, and can even force sufferers to succumb to their physical limitations. When they do, it becomes difficult for them to move painlessly. Pain is often thought to be a result of inflammation and wear and tear, but there are other possible causes identified by researchers.

A new study reveals that the severity of osteoarthritis pain may be linked with one’s mental health.  Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease, and it is considered to be the most common form of arthritis. Sufferers often resort to the use of pain relief medications to improve their overall condition.

“There are safer natural alternatives to pain relief drugs, and this includes glucosamine supplements,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

According to the researchers from the University of California-Davis School of Medicine, individuals who have better mental health are often the ones who suffer from less pain. Those with worst mental health, on the other hand, live a more painful life.

Barton L. Wise, lead author of the study and an assistant professor of general internal medicine, reveals that increased pain levels were linked with worse mental health. The study suggests that treating mental health can produce some significant improvements in the reduction of arthritis pain.

The study was called “Psychological Factors and Their Relation to Osteoarthritis Pain,” and it was published in the Osteoarthritis and Cartilage journal. The researchers further suggest that poorer mental health was also associated with pain flares.

Osteoarthritis is thought to be a result of a significant loss of cartilage at the joints. It produces symptoms such as tenderness, stiffness and joint pain in the hips, knees, and spine.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 27 million individuals in the United States who suffer from osteoarthritis. This condition is also considered to be the main reason why the rate of knee-and hip-replacement surgery has been increasing.

In the Longitudinal Examination of Arthritis Pain Study, the researchers studied 266 subjects. They aimed at investigating the relationship between fluctuations in pain, the pain itself, and health outcomes.

It was found that the participants who had worse mental health experienced a relatively high osteoarthritis pain. They were also twice more likely to suffer from increased pain flares.

While studies are still underway to validate the causes of pain, more and more osteoarthritis sufferers are turning to glucosamine supplements. This natural remedy is thought to be a safer alternative to pain relief drugs (www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
