(Free Press Release) From Shark Week to African Wildlife Teens Can Now Combine Travel with Global Issues.

Mill Valley, CA December 15, 2010 -- Has your teen shown a glimmer of passion for the environment? Do they enjoy traveling with other teens? Adventures Cross-Country, a leading student travel company, might have the perfect program for your teen this summer. The company today announced the launch of its latest teen travel opportunity, its Global Action programs.

These hands-on programs focus on the pressing issues affecting the communities they visit. In a supervised group format, students participate in a series of studies on important topics, such as interactions between humans and ecosystems, public health, sustainable development and cultural preservation in the age of globalization. Encouraging open minds, the company's new Global Action programs are something new in the area of teen travel.

"Merging education and service, we examine issues from multiple points of view, interact directly with those involved on all sides of the debate and form our own conclusions. We gain a global perspective on local issues as we engage in the learning experience of a lifetime," commented Scott von Eschen, President of Adventures Cross-Country (ARCC).

The first two adventures deployed under the Global Action umbrella include a wildlife study to Africa and a marine study in the Galapagos. Trips details include:

• The Wildlife Study takes students to the Kenyan Savanna and Tanzania's Pemba Island where they join wildlife experts and conservationists to go beyond the traditional safari to do research and learn about the efforts in play to protect the famous animals of Africa. Meeting with community leaders, wildlife activists and governmental officials, students witness first hand, the challenges involved around these critical issues.

• On ARCC‘s Galapagos Marine Study, students examine one of the most controversial fishing issues in the world: shark finning. The study touches several sides of this controversial topic. Field research includes meeting with scientists from the Charles Darwin Station. Students will take to the water, swimming and snorkeling with a variety of marine species including sharks to witness the beauty of these gentle predators of the sea and record their behavior with underwater video.

ARCC‘s Global Action programs are open to students finishing 9th to 12th grade in 2011. Please visit www.adventurescrosscountry.com/program.cfm?TripCategoryID=3 for more information. The Global Action programs start at $5,195 and spots can be reserved immediately.
