Female board-certified plastic surgeon and co-founder, Melinda Haws, MD, has been selected as one of nine physicians in the Middle/East Tennessee region to offer Kybellaâ„¢ injections. This first-in-class non-surgical treatment fills an unmet need in cosmetic treatments for women and men who have concerns in this area and were previously required to undergo invasive surgical procedures.
Kybellaâ„¢ is the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness. When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybellaâ„¢ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with Kybellaâ„¢ is not expected. Treatment with Kybellaâ„¢ is customized by the physician to the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile.
Prior to each treatment session, the doctor will palpate the submental area to ensure sufficient submental fat. Kybellaâ„¢ is administered by injections into the fat under the chin via 0.2 mL injections spaced 1cm apart using a 30G (or smaller) 0.5-inch needle. The safe and effective use of Kybellaâ„¢ depends on the use of the correct number of locations for injections, proper needle placement, and administration techniques. In clinical trials, the average dose administered was approximately 4 to 6 mL per treatment session. Each in-office treatment session is typically 15-20 minutes.
Dr. Melinda Haws is a plastic surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons as well as the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
