An exclusive interaction with globally acclaimed Mallakhamb player Uday Deshpande, only on IBN-Lokmat

 

Pune, 11 January 2014: Uday Deshpande, head of Swami Samarth Vyayam Mandir is the promoter, teacher of Malkhamb. Mallakham is a truly indigenous Indian sport which requires niche skills, extreme physical fitness and concentration of mind. Till date Deshpande has performed several demonstrations in India and abroad for conserving and nurturing this truly Indian Sport. His innumerous demonstrations have been accompanied by workshops and training sessions. Deshpande have been visiting schools and sport academies for propagation of Mallakhamb. Deshpande was three-and-a-half years old when his parents decided to enroll him and his siblings at Shri Samartha Vyayam Mandir. Since then he has had a continued association with Mallakhamb till date. Along with Mallakhamb he has also explored various other sports like Yoga, Gymnastics, Kho-Kho, Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling while taking part in District, State & Nationals tournaments. In order to strengthen his skills further he successfully completed N.I.S. Certificate Course from South Center, Bangalore in gymnastics.
 
As a teacher, Uday Deshpande has taught countless students with diverse background and different age groups. From young to old, his students come from all age groups. National players, acrobats, foreigners, Yoga fans, Yoga teachers have been part of his training camps. Not just that he has extended art of this amazing sport form to the differently abled people too. He has effectively trained a number of visually challenged, deaf & dumb, mentally challenged & physically handicapped children. Adivasis, Vanvasis from the tribal areas have also been part of his training camps. 
 
Uday Deshpande is an assistant commissioner in the Customs and Excisedepartment By profession. He also serves as the honorary general secretary and chief coach at Shri Samartha Vyayam Mandir located at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. He is a certified referee in Mallakhamb as well as Gymnastics and he has been Judge in almost all the National Gymnastics Championship competitions conducted from 1979 to 1990.
