Jerry Marshall never lets his tents touch the ground.

Jerry and son Jeff have been in the tent and party rental business for about 25 years, serving southwestern Ontario from Stratford to Hamilton and as far away as Windsor.

If there’s one thing they pride themselves on, it’s the pristine condition of their white tents. That’s why they always lay out ground sheets before they set up, take down or clean a tent. They also replace the tents regularly to ensure they look fresh.

“That’s one thing we’re really conscious of. We want to make sure everything is absolutely clean for a wedding or event,” Jerry says. “That’s the name we’ve built.”

J. Marshall Tent & Party Rentals offers tents and canopies for small events like weddings or buck and does, family reunions and ball tournaments. They also serve large festivals that require as many as 30 large tents, such as London’s annual RibFest and the Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival, named Ontario’s Event of the Year in 2012.

Based in Granton, Ontario, the company offers a full line of event supplies, including:

* Special occasion tents—all sizes, ranging from ten feet by ten feet (for a table and two chairs at a trade show, for example) to 60 feet by 100 (easily holding 500 people)
* Canopies—tents without walls
* Lighting
* Tables—round or rectangular banquet and pedestal tables in a full range of sizes to seat as many as 10 people per table
* Chairs—white Samsonite folding chairs or heavier “Gladiator” wooden folding chairs with padded seats
* Linens and napkins—a wide assortment of colours, solid or rose-patterned, and a range of sizes
* Table skirting
* Dishes and cutlery
* Dance floors—red oak polished plywood
* Heaters—propane tent heaters, thermostat-controlled, for large tents
* Stages —four feet by eight feet skirted and carpeted or four feet by four feet carpeted sections

Jerry says people choose J. Marshall tents because they are “high-peaked, glamorous, high-class tents.”

“They’re overwhelming,” he says. “I am amazed at the engineering of these tents.”

Festival organizers tend to choose solid walls, while weddings call for cathedral windows, and both types of walls can be folded up on a hot day. Tents come with a halogen light on the centre pole, or you can rent miniature white lights for the inside perimeter or to hang on trees. Tent rentals range from $250 to $5,000 depending on size and delivery costs.

Most of the company’s business comes through referrals. Jerry and Jeff and their team of seasonal employees earn their reputation by making sure tents go up or come down on time, every time. They also respond to weekend calls and guarantee service and quality: consultations and site measurements are free; payment is due only once a tent has been set up.

“If you rent a tent from us, you see it installed. That’s the difference between us and the competition. We make sure your event is a success.”
