Mahan Coal improves infrastructure inAmiliya village

Singrauli, September 2014: With the aim to give access to better facilities, including healthcare and education, to the people of Amiliya village, Mahan Coal Ltdhas started construction of a culvert to connect two different parts of Amiliya village with each other as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

The culvert which will be around 6 meter long is likely to improve the connectivity of Sunrail and Doliaboda to other part of Amiliya Village. More than600 people are residing in these two areas. The area is part of Amiliya village but not well connected with the main part of the village. The villagers face problem during rainy season when water flow increases in the nullah. The school students also struggle to cross the nullah due to heavy current of the water. Moreover, in case of any medical emergency, the villagers also struggle to go to the health centre at Amiliya for treatment.

According to village Sarpanch Sri Santosh Singh,“Villagers can now access primary medical care easily at the Health Centre run by Mahan Coal Ltd. In case of emergencies, MCL can organize a vehicle to take patients to the district hospital from the area. Now it is difficult to villagers to cross the nullah with a patient specially during the rainy season. The villagers will no longer depend on quacks.”

“The new pool will encourage parents like me to send their children to the schools with-out any fear specially during monsoons. During monsoon when the nullah overflows, children have no choice but to stay at home. Parents prefer not to send their kids to school putting their lives at risk. We thank to Mahan Coal for this noble initiative to improve the life style with better connectivity. The pool will fulfil our dreams to avail better facilities,” Sri Singh added.

Commenting on the construction work, Sri Ramakant Tiwari, CEO, Mahan Coal Ltd said,
“We as responsible corporates give priority to overall development of society. With the aim we have identified some key areas like employment, education and healthcare for development. We have realised that villagers require better connectivity to avail employment, healthcare and education facilities at Amiliya village. The construction work has started and is in full swing. With all the support from local villagers, we are planning to dedicate the pool to all the villagers before next monsoon.”

Mahan Coal Ltd. has renovated the Govt. Primary Healthcare Sub-centre at Amiliyaafter taking necessary permission from the District Collector and District Chief Medical Officer in October 2012. A doctor, female ANM and a pharmacist visit the health sub centre daily. Besides this initiative, over 10 free health camps were organized by MCL over the past two years where specialists doctors treated the villagers for diseases ranging from basic cough and cold, fever, blood pressure to serious cases of malnutrition, weak eyesight and heart related problems.

Mahan Coal Ltd has also renovated three government schools in Ameliya, Budher and Suggu village and distributes school uniforms, sweaters and other study stationaries.
