It sounds like an impossible dream but what if there really was a way to organise your life so that you never had to work again?

This is precisely what is covered in Erlend Bakke’s new book “Never Work Again” — a book, incidentally, that is written by someone who at a very young age has managed to achieve the dream himself. Actually, if we’re being picky Erlend still works, however, he works on his own terms doing what he loves and seldom works more than five hours a week.

And this is the point of the book — despite the title, it’s not really about never working again, its focus is on finding something that you love to do, building a business around it, and structuring that the business in a way that will give you the Holy Grail of time freedom and financial freedom.

The fate that befalls most new business owners and entrepreneurs is that they end up working in their businesses rather than on their businesses. This means longer hours and high stress, often with little to show for it in financial terms — hardly what most entrepreneurs go into business for!

In fact, this was exactly the sort of life that Erlend was leading before, in 2010, he collapsed on a London tube train and was rushed to hospital. Fortunately, he turned out to have suffered a massive panic attack brought on by the stress of long hours and overwork — deeply unpleasant, but not life-threatening. However, this was enough of a wake-up call for Erlend to reorganise his life and take back control.

He did this by researching how he could outsource some of the many business processes that he had previously been doing all on his own. Since 2010 he’s been so successful at this that he is now able to run three separate companies with a combined total of 20 staff and yet work fewer hours in a month than most of us work in a week.

The secret is “ethical outsourcing”, whereby Erlend is able to find the best talent for the job regardless of where they live in the world and pay a wage that is generous by local standards, while still offering great value for money for his companies. And because ethical outsourcing is about getting the best talent for the job it is not necessarily the case that all the people Erlend’s companies hire are overseas. Erlend has workers from the United States, the UK, India, the Philippines and several other countries. It really is about finding the best people for the job and building the right teams.

In his new book Never Work Again, Erlend describes what it takes to build the sort of virtual business that will allow you to effectively outsource your job and live the life of your dreams.

Never Work Again is available as a hardcopy book from Amazon and all major bookstores and is also available from Amazon as a Kindle book.
