Institute of Technical Arts Selected for Education Cooperation Award

Casselberry, FL; 17, December 2014: The Institute of Technical Arts in Casselberry, Fla. received the 2014 National Association of Agricultural Educators Outstanding Cooperation award at the NAAE annual convention in Nashville, Tenn., November 18-22.

The Institute of Technical Arts has been working with agriculture programs, in the Orlando, Fla. area for 10 years. Through this partnership, high school and college students are paired together to help both prepare for a career in veterinary medicine.

Instructors at ITA offer hands-on labs that allow students to practice skills like livestock hoof trimming, physical exams, and animal identification. Additionally, ITA helps high school FFA members compete in the state veterinary competition by supplying FFA teams with instruments, surgical gowns, wraps, and animal CPR equipment.

ITA recently moved to a larger campus in 2012. During this time it added an Associate of Science Veterinary Technology program to the school and expanded its facilities to include an on-campus veterinary clinic. They use this facility to give tours and visit local agriculture programs to promote a career in the animal industry.

Each of the six regional Outstanding Cooperation award winners was recognized for their contributions to agricultural education during the NAAE Convention in Nashville. Forrest T. Jones and Company sponsors the plaques for the NAAE Outstanding Cooperation award. NAAE is the professional association for agricultural educators. Its mission is “professionals providing agricultural education for the global community through visionary leadership, advocacy and service.” The NAAE office is located in Lexington, Ky.
