METTLER TOLEDO has released LR low retention tips, which improve pipetting accuracy by minimizing residual volume, particularly when transferring fluids with diverse compositions and physical characteristics. The new LR low retention tips make pipetting easier and more reliable for customers across the life sciences.
METTLER TOLEDO's new Rainin LR low retention tips offer improved pipetting accuracy and performance, and are available in many sizes and packaging options. Low retention tips prevent samples from interacting with the polypropylene surface of the tip. METTLER TOLEDO employs a unique manufacturing process to produce tips with a uniform field of highly-repellent fluoropolymer molecules that form an impenetrable "superhydrophobic" electron field. The result: liquids and molecules are suspended above the surface, allowing problem liquids to glide effortlessly in and out of the tip.
More common manufacturing methods dipping or tumbling tips in a fluoropolymer bath can produce tips with incomplete and uneven layers of fluoropolymer that are more likely to clog or leach. What's more, tips made with 'diamond polished molds are often advertised as low retention, yet do nothing to prevent samples from reacting with the polypropylene and binding to the surface.
The new Rainin LR tip family includes a new wide orifice design that reduces shear force and provides a super-slippery surface to protect delicate samples. The wide aperture and super-repellent surface improves pipetting performance with viscous/syrupy liquids, cultured cells and high-molecular weight polymers, such as genomic DNA.
Like all Rainin tips, LR tips are BioClean, which means they are rigorously tested and certified to be free of biological contaminants, like DNA, DNase, RNase, Pyrogen, ATP and PCR inhibitors. In addition to offering a wider range of tip sizes and packaging options, Rainin LR tips are available in LTS format for pipettes equipped with the Rainin LiteTouch System, as well universal tip format to fit all brands of competitor pipettes.
