It undertakes prevention and settlement of industrial disputes, Industrial safety, health and promotes welfare of workers within Maharashtra. It is headed by Hon. The objectives of the labour department are administration, monitoring and control of implementation of labour laws by the office of Commissioner of Labour. For the rapid development of the industrial & services sector in the state many reforms and relevant labour related policies have been introduced. Improving normal working conditions and quality of life of all workers in organized and unorganized sectors are some of the issues that are worked upon by them. The department also aims to resolve issues related to Health and Welfare measures, child labour and occupational safety amongst others.
