The Western Ghats in Maharashtra which constitute of mountain range is considered to be one of the hottest hotspot of biological diversity. They influence the Indian monsoon weather in the state.The Western Ghats starts from the border of Gujarat and ends in Tamil Nadu. It is believed that Western Ghats are much older than Himalayas and is recognized amongst World heritage site. The Western Ghats is not just a place of breathtaking natural beauty but also a biodiversity zone where many rare and endangered species of flora and fauna flourish. The 1600 km long mountain chain is home for reserve forests, thousands of animal species. But in recent times, unrestricted mining, quarrying and huge infrastructure projects are endangering the fragile ecology of this magical land. Many animal and plant life has been suffered due to so called urbanization which has led to the destruction of many species.

 

It is vital to think maintenance of habitat continuity, and of an ecologicallydiversity to ensure long term conservation and preserve our own biodiversity-rich area.
