The department of Food and Civil Supplies mainly aims at smooth supply of essential commodities at a reasonable rate to every common man of the state. This department runs under the Government of India’s Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and Government of Maharashtra’s order 1975. It plays a vital role in implementation of Public Distribution System. Born in Nagpur, Anil Deshmukh completed his M.sc. In the year 1992 he entered politics and was elected as Zilla Parishad member with highest votes in Vidarbha region. During his tenure he has held various positions from being a Minister of State for school Education, Information and Public Relations, sports and Youth Welfare, Cabinet Minister for State Excise, Food & Drugs, Cabinet Minister for Public works. His department looks after providing essential commodities like Wheat, Rice, Sugar, Kerosene, Palm Oil through their respective ration shops to the citizens. The responsibility of implementation of Consumer Protection Act, is also entrusted with this department. They implement various schemes such as mid-day-meal schemes, Suwarna Jayanti Rojgar Yojna, Antyodaya Yojna, Annaputnna Yojna. All issues related to Ration card, Adhar Card, Public Distribution System are handled by this Department.
