Leonardo Range of Products

A press conference was held by Dalmia Continental Pvt. Ltd. (DCPL) at Hotel Sayaji to introduce its leading premium foods to Indore. Dalmia Continental’s flagship product, Leonardo Olive Oil, is the No.1 brand of olive oil in India. DCPL’s other products under the Leonardo banner are Olives, Premium Pasta and Premium Pickle made in Olive Oil.

Dalmia Continental’s AGM-Corporate, Ms Himani Dalmia, shared a detailed presentation on Leonardo’s exciting range of products.  â€˜When we launched Leonardo in 2003, we pioneered the use of olive oil for Indian cooking,’ said Ms Dalmia. ‘It was a huge challenge for we had to overcome the notion that olive oil was not suited to Indian cuisine and cooking practices. We were the first to popularize olive pomace oil, a grade that was refined, neutral in flavor and suitable for frying. Our aim is to introduce olive oil to the average Indian household for everyday cooking, for only then will it have an impact on health. We call this movement ‘Indiano’ — mixing Italy with India, health with tradition. With Leonardo Olives and Leonardo Pasta, we are extending the same idea to these Mediterranean foods as well. We have worked with leading chefs to create recipes that incorporate olives and pasta into Indian dishes. We hope that olives and pasta will become familiar ingredients in Indian cooking in the near future.’

Mr Sandeeep Bhatia, DGM-Business, Dalmia Continental, shared the company’s business plans for the region. ‘Today, Leonardo products are available in over 16 towns and at more than 962 counters in West India,’ Mr Bhatia said. ‘By March 2014, Dalmia Continental projects that Leonardo will be available in more than 21 towns and at over 4000 outlets in West India. The total turnover of Madhya Pradesh for 2013-14 is projected to be `3.6 Cr. Indore currently ranks in the Top 20 cities in terms of sales volume for Dalmia Continental.’

Chefs Nazim and Arvind of Hotel Sayaji then demonstrated some innovative and delicious ‘Indiano’ recipes like Pasta Makhani and Olive Pakodas using Leonardo Olive Oil, Olives and Pasta.

Olive Oil and Health

Olive oil is universally accepted as the healthiest of all edible oils. It is a cornerstone of the famed ‘Mediterranean diet’ and a major contributor to the low rates of cardiovascular disease recorded in that region. Olive oil has the highest content of monounsaturated “good” fatty acids (MUFA), which reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides, thus preventing coronary heart disease. It has amongst the lowest percentage of saturated “bad” fats, which increase bad cholesterol. High MUFA also plays a significant role in the prevention of diabetes.

The large amounts of antioxidants in olive oil, like Vitamin E in olive pomace oil and Vitamins A, D, E, K and B-carotene in extra virgin olive oil, help prevent cancer, reduce the effects of aging and increase life expectancy significantly.

In addition, olive oil has been shown to lower high blood pressure, reduce the risk of breast cancer, act as a painkiller, prevent osteoporosis, facilitate the digestion system, protect skin and hair, prevent the formation of gallstones and reduce dementia, amongst much more.
