GOLD GLITTERS BRIGHT AT GJIEE 2014

~ MJDMA & UBM India conclude the 10th Gem & Jewellery India International Exhibition ~

The success of the Gem & Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE’14), jointly organised by the Madras Jewellers and Diamond Merchants Association (MJDMA) and UBM India clearly verified that all that glitters is gold. Held in Chennai, the three day mega trade fair (8-10th February 2014) was represented by over 300 jewellers - retailers, manufacturers and wholesalers from India and the international markets.

GJIIE’14, South India’s largest Gem & Jewellery fair witnessed an increase in show size with dedicated pavilions for Gold, Silver and Diamond and span of participation as compared to last year. In addition to Mumbai, Delhi and the potential 2 and 3 tier cities in India, GJIIE’14 had representation from Sri Lanka, Andaman, Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar & Dubai, thus substantiating the international presence and reach of GJIIE’14. The exhibition hosted over 100 well known national and international buyers and had visitors from across US, UK and UAE. The buyer community was from cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Tumkur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Vijayawada and Trissur. Gold jewellery was exhibited from almost every major city in India including Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Thrissur, Mumbai and Chennai for the spectators. The platform served a gold jewellery retailer well in terms of sourcing and networking with manufacturers. Handmade jewellery and machine-made casted jewellery from companies like Mamraj Mussadilal Jewellers, Sanghi Jewellers (Hyderabad), KRIZZ and Emerald were also seen at the show.

Some of the exhibitors of GJIIE 204 included Chain and Chains (Mumbai), Derewala Jewellery (Jaipur), MuktiGold (Mumbai), RKR gold (Coimbatore), White Fire (Chennai), Jewel Park (Nellore), Prakash Gold Palace (Chennai) and Laxmi Jewellery (Chennai). The strong potential of the gem and jewellery market of South India was evident, as being undoubtedly tremendous and huge compared to other parts of India.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was the world’s tallest silver lamp, the ‘Sampoorna Vilakku’ of 13.5 ft crafted by NAC jewellers. The lamp has five levels and is based on the theory of five elements (pancha boothangal) earth, water, air, fire and sky.

The unique feature of the 10th edition of GJIIE’14 was the launch of ‘The Golden Hand Award’ in South India. The award, a UBM India initiative, is instituted to honour the unspoken craftsmen — the traditional ‘kaarigars’and to recognise their craftsmanship.

Mr. Joji George, Managing Director, UBM India said “India is one of the world's largest and fastest growing Gem and Jewellery markets and South India is country's major consumer of gold and jewellery. Owing to the ever increasing domestic and international demand, the industry needs a platform which can tap this potential and in turn drive commerce. It’s been a constant endeavour of UBM India to provide such a platform to the manufacturers and retailers of this segment, to connect and drive business, thus meeting the larger industry needs. After a decade of being a catalyst to the Gems and Jewellery industry, UBM India’s focus for GJIIE’14 was to raise benchmarks and further fuel trade for the jewellery industry in India.”

Talking at the inauguration, Mr. Rajesh Vummidi, Chairman, GJIIE said, “Being the leading B2B International Jewellery Exhibition for the South Indian market, GJIIE’14 provided the desired platform for buyers of Gold, Gems, Diamonds, Pearls and Silver Jewellery, precious and semi-precious stone jewellery to boost business and also scout for optimum resources in the industry.”

Mr. Jayantilal Challani, President, MJDMA said," GJIIE’14 provided the manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, not only with a bustling trade platform but also an unmatched networking platform with a forum for exchange of industry trends and knowledge.”
