Juggling roles as an actor, producer and politician, Dharmendra Singh Deol is known to be one of the finest actors of his times.  He received "The Life Time Achievement" award by Filmfare in 1997 for his achievements, splendid performance and career in bollywood. Born a Jat from Phagwara village in Punjab, Dharmendra won the Filmfare new talent contest which made him come to Mumbai and bag him his first solo hero grossing hit “Phool aur phatar” (1966). The performances in his films - "Seeta Aur Geeta", "Jugnu", "Raja Jani" and "Loafer" are quite remarkable and unforgettable which were a huge run at the box office. Not forgetting the heroic role he played as "Veeru" in "Sholay"(1975), which became an all time blockbuster; he went on to star in numerous successful Bollywood films across five decades. Dharmendra has acted in action-packed blockbusters as well as comedy roles in Hrishikesh Mukerjee's "Chupke Chupke", "Satyakam" and "Anupama". He was known for his perfect comedy dialogue delivery in movies. His most talked about relationship with actress Hema Malini was also his most successful on screen pairing; Hema Malini went on to become his future second wife.

Elected as a Member of the Parliament from the Bikaner Constituency in Rajasthan, Dharmendra joined hands with the Bhartiya Janta Party in 2004. In 2012 His achievements were honored with the Padma Bhushan, by the Government of India.
